I have to admit I was very happy when it was announced that Tool would be playing at Copenhell in 2019. Tool is band that I have huge respect for and their music is absolutely breathtaking.
The first time I saw Tool live was in 1993 when they toured with Lollapalooza and played the so-called “side stage”. I was back in Pennsylvania visiting friends over the summer when the Lollapalooza Tour came to town. It was a pretty good line up of bands with Primus, Dinosaur Jr, Alice in Chains and Rage Against The Machine to name a few.
Tool gave the people at Copenhell a fantastic concert. The music was performed absolutely flawlessly, the vocals were spot on and the sound was great. All this was complemented by a fantastic light show. The intricate and sometimes complex yet accessible music that Tool produces just grabbed everyone.
The withdrawn appearance on stage by singer Maynard James Keenan, the somewhat static and calm movement on stage added to the mystic and atmosphere. It was just a beautiful ending of a great first day at Copenhell in 2019.
